JUST UPDATED 2024: JAPAN COMING SOON: New York City / Austin / Los Angeles / San Diego / San Antonio / Houston / Dallas / Shanghai / Singapore / Branson (Missouri) / Western Montana

Hi, welcome to the Bradley family Travel Blog! The point of the blog is to let our family and friends see what we are doing and if they ever go to these places they can choose what to see and what to avoid. We tend to lean toward the more active side - like "leave no stone unturned" so if you want to go at a more leisurely pace, you can just pick and choose. Choose a destination above, on the map, or in the groups on the right hand side of the page.

Happy travels, Phill, Shellie, Bix, Brooke

Austria - Hallstatt

Today we drove from Munich to Hallstatt, Austria, a picture-postcard spot southeast of Salzburg.

To get there, you have to wind through small farm plots and sparsely populated villages until you get to a series of tunnels through the mountain and to lake Hallstatt.  The town is very small and we proceeded through it to the Salt Mine which is inside one of the neighboring mountains.  You take a very long funicular to the top where you can either tour the salt mine or just visit the buildings built up there.  Dave and Jina had previously been to Salzwelt (Salt world) in Salzburg, so we skipped that and just went to the observation deck where you can look down on the town and the lake and surrounding towns.

After descending the mountain, we visited the shops in the town.  This would be a cute little town to stay in for a day or two.

We left with enough time (one hour) to get to Salzburg before dusk.  After checking in at our hotel - Das Grüne Hotel zur Post - we went to dinner at Gasthaus Drei Hasen - where they served regional specialties in a pub atmosphere.  It was within walking distance of the hotel. The owner served us (not sure if it was just a slow night), and the food was very good.
