JUST UPDATED 2024: JAPAN COMING SOON: New York City / Austin / Los Angeles / San Diego / San Antonio / Houston / Dallas / Shanghai / Singapore / Branson (Missouri) / Western Montana

Hi, welcome to the Bradley family Travel Blog! The point of the blog is to let our family and friends see what we are doing and if they ever go to these places they can choose what to see and what to avoid. We tend to lean toward the more active side - like "leave no stone unturned" so if you want to go at a more leisurely pace, you can just pick and choose. Choose a destination above, on the map, or in the groups on the right hand side of the page.

Happy travels, Phill, Shellie, Bix, Brooke

Day 6 - Trip to Hilo

Today we left Volcano to go to Hilo - here's a picture of us leaving our cottage.

Before leaving town for good, we made one last stop at the Jaggar Museum at the park - we saw Kilauea during the daytime.  The kids picked up some souvenirs and Dad and Mom got a cool video to watch when we get home.

First stop in Hilo was the Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo - we saw a white Bengal tiger and a bunch of other cool animals.  Road to the zoo (left), Kids at the Entrance (lower left), Bengal Tiger (lower right).

Then we ate at Ken's House of Pancakes.  Ken's is not only about pancakes - Mom and Dad had two different Moco Locos - Dad's was a bowl of rice with a flame-broiled hamburger patty, covered with chili and topped with two eggs - Mom had Corned Beef hash instead of the beef patty and chili.  It was Ono (Hawaiian for delicious).

We went to get some groceries then headed to our place.  It was a little hard to find, but worth it.  After going through a lush rainforest at the Kolekole park, we drove through some grassland and found the place - a beautiful two-bedroom home with our own pool overlooking the ocean.  The house has hardwood floors and modern conveniences, but is in the middle of nowhere.  At night all you can hear is forest bugs and frogs chattering.

There are waterfalls on the property but you have to be ninja to get to them - they are about 200 feet down a cliff wall. We hear only teenagers try to get there.  So the kids spent the night in the pool.
